BIO

Madeleine Ertel is a trumpeter, vocalist, composer, and teacher based in Toronto, Ontario. Currently completing her fourth year of a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto, she is already being recognized as a unique voice on the Toronto music scene. She can be heard around Toronto in a variety of contexts, such as in the free-improvising trio TVT, the neo-soul band Moodset, Victor Vrankulj's folk-inspired band Lonesome Town, and in various straight-ahead jazz ensembles. She continues to grow as a solo singer-songwriter, by drawing upon diverse musical influences, as well as by contrasting improvisation with through-composition.

In her hometown of Kelowna, BC, Madeleine gained performance experience by playing original folk music around town with her sister. She began studying classical piano and violin at an early age, and continues to bring classical music influences into her compositions. She played and composed for the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra before moving to Toronto to pursue jazz.
